The world's first 6-piece cross-liver transplant was performed in Malatya
Minister of Health Fahrettin Koca said, "The world's first cross-6 liver transplant surgery was performed at the Liver Transplantation Institute of Malatya Inönü University."
Minister of Health Fahrettin Koca announced on his social media account that the world's first cross-6 liver transplant was performed at the Liver Transplantation Institute of Malatya Inönü University.
Noting that the first 4- and 5-Dec cross liver transplants were also performed at this center before, he said, "Cross transplant surgeries mean that patients cannot receive organs from their own donors due to blood and tissue mismatch, even though they are donors, transplanting from one donor to the recipient of another between patients in the same condition. The most advanced of these transplants, the 6-point cross-liver transplant surgeries, increases the hope for patients waiting for a transplant,` he said.
"There will be hope for patients waiting for liver transplantation"
Koca, Head of the Liver Transplantation Institute of Malatya Inönü University Prof. Dr. Sezai Yilmaz also shared a video in which he explained the surgery process.
Prof. Dr. Yilmaz noted that 2-cross transplants have been performed in many countries around the world, but it has been shown that this has not made a huge contribution to patients waiting for a liver transplant, but success has been achieved with multiple cross-liver transplants. Prof. Dr. Yilmaz, saying that 9 of the 3-cross transplants performed 11 times so far, as well as 4- and 5-cross liver transplants were performed at their institute, "Yesterday, for the first time, a 6-cross liver transplant took place. It started at 08.00 in the morning, finished at about 20.00 in the evening and was completed without problems. The condition of our patients is very good. I hope that this model will be a hope for patients waiting for liver transplantation both in our country and around the world. These surgeries, including 2-cross transplants, are the same abroad, for example in America, even in very developed countries.
